3-4-2-1 Formation Builder

Create a 3-4-2-1 lineup with three centre-backs, a midfield four, two inside forwards, one striker, and a goalkeeper.

When to use a 3-4-2-1 formation

The 3-4-2-1 pairs a back three with wing-backs and two creative players behind a central striker. The two number tens work in the half-spaces, giving the team lots of options between the lines while the wing-backs provide width.

  • Three centre-backs give a stable base for building from the back.
  • Drops easily into a 5-4-1 block when defending.

Trade-offs

  • The central midfield pair can be outnumbered by a three-player midfield.

Best player roles

  • Energetic wing-backs who provide width and get back to defend.
  • Ball-playing centre-backs who can step out and start attacks.
